Driving Test

Theory Test

The theory test is made up of two parts; the multiple choice part and the hazard perception part. You'll need to pass both parts to pass the theory test.

In your Theory Test you will be presented with one case study where you will be required to answer 5 questions that are related to the scenario     displayed on screen. The multiple choice test is a touch screen computer test where you'll be asked 50 questions in 57 minutes. The pass mark for the multiple choice part is 43 out of 50.

The hazard perception part is a computer based test to assess how well you can recognise and respond to hazards on the road. The test consists of 14 video clips, each lasting about one minute. The clips feature various types of hazards. The earlier the developing hazard is seen, and a response made, the higher the score. The pass mark for the hazard perception test for car drivers is 44 out of 75.

Practical Test

The driving test is straightforward and has been designed to see if you:

  • Can drive safely.
  • Know The Highway Code and can demonstrate this through your driving.

Before your test begins your examiner will ask you to read a number plate at a set distance, 20 metres. If you pass this you can continue with the rest of your test. You will then be asked 2 questions on carrying out car safety checks before you show the examiner how well you can drive. This will include at least 2 maneuvers from the following

  • Reverse around a corner.
  • Turn in the road.
  • Reverse parking.
  • Emergency stop.

You will fail your driving test if you commit one serious driving error during your test or commit sixteen minor driving errors.

All courses are tailored accordingly to suit the pupil after an initial assessment, so you can achieve the successful outcome.
